From the towering peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m, the highest in Africa) to those of Mount Meru (4,566m), Ol Doinyo Lengai (2,960m) as well as the Usambara (2,440m) and Udzungwa Mountains (2,576m) ranges; Tanzania has iconic landmarks. Although Kilimanjaro and Meru are the two most popular, Kilimanjaro receives the most visitors, coveted amongst its climbers for its bucket-list status.
The dry seasons are the ideal times: January–March and June–October, providing steady weather and decent visibility. Stay clear of the lengthy rainy season (March–May), when trails are muddied, slicked and less pleasant to hike. Kilimanjaro is particularly busy between June–October, with little rain in this months.
The price ranges per mountain and package: Kilimanjaro packages vary from $2,100–$4,000 for 6–9 days based on the route and inclusions. Meru packages are typically $1,000–$2,000. The cost includes needing permits and guides and porters and food and accommodation and so on. Luxury options with high-end lodges can top $5,000.
Most packages will cover park fees, experienced guides, porters, meals, camping/hut and transfers to/from trailheads. Diwaka Safaris also camp days and trail list rental for Kilimanjaro. Personal gear, gratuities, or optional activities (e.g., cultural tours) Prices may apply.

Do it 3–6 months before and prepare for Hiking and Cardio Endurance Training or Strength Training. If your aim is to adjust to the altitude: go for the routes with more days (Lemosho for Kilimanjaro, 8–9 days) Do not forget quality boots, layers, sleeping bags, and trekking poles. Drink plenty of water, eat well and use experienced guides to find your way around.
